How to share an AMI Image in AWS

Sometimes you may find yourself in a situation where you need to share an image between accounts.  Below you will find a quick walk through of how to share an AMI image you’ve already created.

EC2 AMIs page with an image selected and Modify Image Permissions chosen from the Actions menu.

Right click on the Image > Modify image permissions

Modify Image Permissions dialog with an AWS account field and the option to share associated snapshot permissions.

Add AWS account number here

****If you don’t check the box then you can still share the image but people will need to create an EC2 instance from the image before they can create their own image

–Eliminates the ability to do copy right away

Summary:

Sharing images is not a challenging task but it helps to have seen it once or twice.  As always, I hope y’all found this useful.
